Mission Statement

As young adults of Mary Star of the Sea Parish,
We wish to promote a forum for spiritual and
intellectual growth among our multiethnic peers in
concert with the larger parish community.

What is YAMS?

The Young adults of Mary Star (YAMS) is a ministry for the young adults at Mary Star of the Sea. To minister to these adults, YAMS sponsors spiritual, social, and intellectual events for them. Also, young adult volunteers help to organize YAMS events as well as provide service to the parish.

Who are the YAMS?

The YAMS are all the young adults who:

Attend Mary Star of the Sea Parish whether or not registered parishioners
Are between the ages of 18 - 49
Are single, married, divorced, or widowed
May or may not have children
May or may not have completed a YAMS membership form.

How can I get involved?

Sometimes announced at the end of Mass. YAMS is a casual group. Young adults simply show up to the events that interest them. Periodically, there are events which require a RSVP, a reservation, or completing a form. In these instances, the ad announcing the vent will inform you of the required action.

Fundraisers

Twice a year, during advent and lent, YAMS organizes an altar flower sale.

These two sales serve the following purposes:

Parish Service
The sales provide the flowers necessary to decorate the Church during the Christmas and Easter Seasons. YAMS also provides the transportation of all the flowers from the florist to the Church.
Charitable Donations
The proceeds from the flower sales provide YAMS with the opportunity to make charitable donations to other parish organizations.
Operating Expenses
The proceeds from the flower sales cover YAMS own operating expenses. Examples of past expenses include: office supplies, copying, postage, catering, party supplies, and decor.
